08 Aug Bangalow Music Festival 2013
It’s been a heady month of festivals around Byron Shire with entertainment for all tastes and ages. The events have ranged from the hard rocking Splendour in the Grass to the more academic Byron Bay Writers’ Festival.
Next up we move inland to the picturesque village of Bangalow for the annual feast of classical music, the Bangalow Music Festival 2013. The work of Southern Cross Soloists, this series of nine concerts over the weekend of 16-18 August will bring world renowned musicians to the NSW Far North Coast.
This year will see an impressive program of classical music for the Bangalow Music Festival. In addition to the Southern Cross Soloists there will be performances by Emma Sholl on Flute, Jess Fotinos on Harp, violinist Qian Zhou, Bernard Lanskey on paino and Sopranos Felicitas Fuchs and Margaret Schindler. The Flinders String Quartet and Silver-Garburg Duo and pianist Jayson Gillham. There will also be a performance of the full Bangalow Festival Orchestra with Conductor Peter Luff.
To the credit of the organisers, there is an educational element to the festival with local school children attending and even having a go at conducting these skilled musicians. Plus the Festival Prelude on Thursday night, the traditional Community Concert, supported by the Bangalow Chamber of Commerce. An affordable evening, with the headline performers playing alongside local musicians from the Northern Rivers giving a taste of the weekend ahead.
Bravo and a standing ovation to Tania Frazer, the Creative Director of the Southern Cross Soloists for putting together a world-class concert and bringing live chamber music to Byron Shire.
