The summer weather is here and the beach is calling as we head into the holiday season. It’s hot in more than one sense here on the Far North Coast of NSW with the Byron Bay property market picking up steam.
Property sales are up across all sectors of the market with the area being especially popular with buyers from Melbourne or Sydney looking for a holiday home or sea/tree change. The first luxury beachfront project to be approved in 15 years is having no trouble finding buyers.
Byron Bay is renowned for its alternative lifestyle and new age values attracting people looking for something more unusual than typical suburban surroundings. Developers are finding the current Council easier to deal with for the right type of projects.
In a recent interview, Byron Mayor Simon Richardson stated, “Byron is open for great business. I support innovative development and will oppose bad development.” In fact a large liquor store, topless bar and take-away franchise have been knocked back recently but another developer offering a light rail service between Sunrise and Byron is getting positive feedback.
As Mayor Simon says, “If you want to bring crap we will resist you. But if someone wants to create something they can be proud of, and we can be proud of, we will embrace you.”
It’s all here in Byron Bay, where the hugs are free…
