Byron Bay Events Continue to Amaze

Known as the most happening coastal town in the world, Byron Bay has so much to offer. Beyond the daily grind of surfing, whale watching, beach and lighthouse walks and sampling the many great restaurants, there’s a steady stream of cultural activities to attend.

Right now, for example, we’ve just had an amazing ten days of cinema with the 7th Byron Bay International Film Festival in town with feature films, documentaries, shorts and animation to choose from, plus workshops and discussion panels for film aficionados. At the Red Carpet Gala Nights for the opening and closing ceremonies there was champagne to sip while rubbing shoulders with filmmakers and other creative residents of this exceptional part of the world.

The end of March brings the much awarded Bluesfest, Australia’s premier blues and roots music festival. Now in its 24th year, the line-up never fails to impress. This year the Easter weekend brings four days of top acts like Robert Plant, Paul Simon, Iggy and the Stooges, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Steve Miller Band, Rodriguez and so many more. The only difficulty is deciding which stage to be at.

Byron also has a reputation among new age thinkers and the spiritually enlightened community. In fact the first weekend in March saw Mullumbimby come alive with creativity and spirituality at the Byron Spirit Festival. With venues all over town there was something for everyone – astrology, yoga, meditation, sacred music including performances of Sacred Sufi Fusion, Kirtan Bhakti Bliss and Ecstatic Dance. An uplifting event for by all accounts.

This weekend brings the Economics of Happiness Conference 2013 to Byron Bay with internationally acclaimed speakers and guests. Discussions and workshops will focus on topics from localisation to the new economy. Forward thinking and creativity are our specialty here in Byron Bay.

So there you have a typical month in the Byron calendar – so much to do, so little time…
