05 Dec Summer in Byron Bay
It’s Summer in Byron Bay and the weather is beautiful. I’m sure it is set to be a busy season with the town already buzzing and most accommodation for the summer season being close to booked out.
We saw the biggest little town in Australia come alive with sound and colour for the seventh annual Mullum Music Festival. It was a sell out success with lots of great music, art, food and street performance spread around over a dozen venues. Some of the acts included the Hussy Hicks, Tim Stokes, Wild Marmalade, Darren Percival and Four Play String Quartet.
Byron Shire Council has approved the largest-ever shopping centre development for Byron Bay. It will replace the current Palace Cinema, the buildings behind it and the Woolworths supermarket. The site will be redeveloped to a 3,400 sq metre mall with a ground floor supermarket, first floor retail shops, restaurants, a bowling ally, an art gallery, a seven-cinema complex, two levels of basement car parking and a terrace over Jonson Street.
The Farm on Ewingsdale Road is fast expanding and looking great. The Farm will offer a unique experience with visitors being able to see first hand how they grow organic produce and hand make products which you can then try in their café. A true paddock to plate experience.
A re-zoning application for the West Byron housing developments has been approved by the State Government.
In a statement announcing the rezoning approval, an unnamed spokesperson from the Planning and Environment Department describes the approval as a “good outcome for Byron Bay’s unique natural environment” and that it followed “detailed consultation with the community and Byron Shire Council”.
From 11th – 14th December the UPLIFT Festival will be held in Byron Bay at the Byron Sports & Culture Centre on Ewingsdale Road. The festival includes presentations by renowned speakers, music, yoga and dance with live sessions and master classes.
