28 Feb Cooking Classes Bangalow Style
When I moved to Byron 25 years ago, Cec owned and ran the Gourmet Bay Deli in Jonson Street which was hugely popular with both locals and visitors.
After seven years of being the providores of fine food Cec decided he wanted a change and opened an Asian noodle bar.
During this time Cec’s wife Di, was leading a very successful career as a blues and jazz singer regularly performing at the Beach Hotel, appearing on the Ray Martin Show, the Mike Walsh Show, and many other TV shows.
13 years ago, Cec and Di left Byron and moved to the beautiful heritage village of Bangalow where Cec opened the Bamboo Noodle Bar. After running Bamboo for 3 years, Cec then decided to kick back and run his own private gourmet cooking school called Cooking in Bangalow with Cec Young.
Di is still on the scene and is the “hostess with the mostess” when you attend class. You won’t get Di singing but she does give singing lessons if you’re interested.
Cec’s cooking style evolved from his birthplace in the Seychelles where the local fare combined elements of Creole, French and Italian culinary delights. On moving to Australia he completed his qualifications in Sydney’s restaurants before relocating to Byron Bay.
Cooking in Bangalow offers, “A unique culinary experience in the home of a professional Chef, in the heart of the beautiful heritage village of Bangalow in the hinterland of Byron Bay.”
His Three Easy Dinners class will teach you how to make delicious meals such as snapper fillets with potatoes and tomatoes, spaghetti with raw tomatoes, rocket and capers, chicken breast with mushroom and dijonaise sauce, all with a summer salad of mixed tomatoes, croutons,
olives and rocket. And best of all, you get to dine on Cec’s beautiful veranda overlooking his garden and enjoy the delicious food you’ve prepared along with your classmates. What better way could there be to spend a Sunday in Bangalow?
