08 Nov Country Shows NSW are on in Mullum and Bangalow
It’s show time again on the Far North Coast of New South Wales with the Mullumbimby Show on this weekend and the Bangalow Show on the 15th and 16th of November. There’s plenty of fun for the whole family.
Time to get out the recipes for the baking and cooking competitions, start artfully arrange flowers and displaying your finest orchids, add the finishing touches to artwork, shake out the quilts and frame the photographs all in pursuit of a blue ribbon at the show.
The traditional agricultural competitions will see local farmers showing off their various breeds of cattle and poultry while reptiles, alpacas and miniature goats are on display. For those who got a taste for the horses at the Melbourne Cup, there’s horse jumping and trotting races to watch along with plenty of hilarious fun races. At Mullumbimby there will be really big trucks and in Bangalow the Belt Buckle and Boot Cup event are sure to please the crowds.
Pet shows, pie eating contests, talent quests and bevies of beauties in the show girl and junior show girl pageants are favourites with musical entertainment, rides, games of chance and of course the all important fireworks to end the shows on Saturday night.
Communities around Byron Shire have been hosting these traditional celebrations of our farming heritage for over one hundred years – this year marks Mullumbimby’s 106th show and Bangalow’s 116th. So make a weekend or two of it and come along and enjoy country shows NSW style.
