Byron Bay Writers Festival
It’s time to get ready for Byron Writers Festival 2024! Now just days away, this year’s festival promises a vibrant program where high-profile storytellers and new voices will explore the theme, “From the ground up”.
This year’s Sample Food Festival is taking place at Bangalow Showground on Saturday, 7th September 2024. It marks the 12th annual celebration of this fantastic festival, which is shaping up to be an absolute must-attend event for anyone who loves good food, local brews, and a vibrant community atmosphere!
One of the great things about living in and around Byron Bay is having events like this right on our doorstep. The Sample Food Festival is all about celebrating the incredible food culture of Northern NSW, and this year, it’s bigger and better than ever.
Head down to Bangalow Showground to sample plates from some of the region’s best restaurants, sip on craft cocktails from award-winning distilleries, and wander through market stalls filled with innovative local artisan foods. It’s not just a food festival—it’s a celebration of everything that makes living in the Byron Bay region so special.
This year’s festival is packed with exciting highlights. The Sample Food Festival lunch is making a comeback after a four-year hiatus, with Fire and Ice being this year’s theme. Some of the region’s top chefs, such as Jay Elbrihi (formerly of Pipit), Harry Foster, MasterChef finalist Wal Foster from Bush Ice Creamery, Daisuke Shibata and Naomi Hare of Tombo Mullumbimby, will be serving up dishes that play with contrasting elements of warm flavours and crisp, cool textures. It’s all set to be an immersive dining experience showcasing the best local spring produce. Plus, with a range of beverages on offer—from Raidis Estate wines of the Coonawarra region, South Australia, to craft kombucha—there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
And it’s not just about the adults! Kids can get in on the action for the first time with a cooking class where they’ll learn to make gnocchi from scratch with local chef Jedd Rifai of the North Byron Hotel. There’s even a wild food foraging masterclass with Peter Hardwick, which sounds like a fantastic way to learn more about the edible delights growing in our backyard.
Another great thing about the Sample Food Festival is how it brings the community together. Whether you’re a long-time local or just visiting, it’s a chance to connect with others, enjoy fantastic food, and support local businesses. Events like this truly highlight the vibrant, sustainable lifestyle we enjoy living in Byron Shire.
So, if you’ll be around on Saturday 7th September, grab your tickets and head to the Bangalow Showground. With tickets priced at just $5 for adults and free entry for under-16s, it’s a fun and affordable day out for the whole family.
Book early, and you can reserve a table in the shade. And if you forget your picnic blanket, don’t worry, you can rent one when you arrive! Either way, you don’t want to miss out on this wonderful celebration of Northern Rivers’ food and culture.
