It’s time to get ready for Byron Writers Festival 2025! Now just days away, this year’s festival promises a vibrant program where high-profile storytellers and new voices will contemplate a life well lived…
This year’s Sample Food Festival is taking place at Bangalow Showground on Saturday 6th September 2025. It marks the 13th annual celebration of this fantastic festival, which is shaping up to be an absolute must-attend event for anyone who loves good food, local brews, and a vibrant community atmosphere!
One of the great things about living in and around Byron Bay is having events like this right on our doorstep. The Sample Food Festival is all about celebrating the incredible food culture of Northern NSW, and this year, it’s bigger and better than ever.
Head down to Bangalow Showground to sample plates from some of the region’s best restaurants, sip on craft cocktails from award-winning distilleries, and wander through market stalls filled with innovative local artisan foods. It’s not just a food festival—it’s a celebration of everything that makes living in the Byron Bay region so special.
This year’s festival is packed with exciting highlights, promising a vibrant celebration of culinary artistry, where food lovers, chefs, and local producers come together in one of the Northern Rivers’ most picturesque settings. Visitors can enjoy live cooking demonstrations, interactive workshops, and a rich array of tasting plates from $5–$15, complemented by music and entertainment throughout the day. Highlights include weaving and yarning circles with Aunty Tania Marlowe and Deb McGready — a space for connection, creativity, and conversation — with proceeds supporting the Bundjalung Ballina Grandmothers Against Removals.
Festival-goers can also dive into a diverse program of masterclasses and tastings. Learn zero-waste cooking with fermentation expert Katerina Lazareva, who shows how a single carrot can be transformed into kimchi, kvass, pesto, and seasoning. Join Bonito chefs Franco and Andres for a hands-on ceviche and Pisco Sour masterclass or explore the wonders of agave spirits with Julz Recsei of North Byron Liquor Merchants.
Cape Byron Distillery founder Eddie Brook will also host an intimate guided tasting of the Brookie’s range and Cape Byron Single Malt, including an exclusive first look at a brand-new release. From ancient weaving practices to cutting-edge fermentation, Peruvian flavours to premium local spirits, this year’s festival offers something for every curious palate.
Sample Food Festival isn’t just for adults! Kids can get in on the action too with a cooking class where, under the guidance of Jedd Rifai of the North Byron Hotel, they’ll learn to mix, shape and cook their very own lunch. There’s even a wild food foraging masterclass with local forager and wild food researcher, Peter Hardwick, which sounds like a fantastic way to learn more about the edible delights growing in our backyard.
Another great thing about the Sample Food Festival is how it brings the community together. Whether you’re a long-time local or just visiting, it’s a chance to connect with others, enjoy fantastic food, and support local businesses. Events like this truly highlight the vibrant, sustainable lifestyle we enjoy living in Byron Shire. So, if you’ll be around on Saturday 6th September, grab your tickets and head to the Bangalow Showground. With tickets priced at just $5 for adults and free entry for under-16s, it’s a fun and affordable day out for the whole family. Don’t miss out on this wonderful celebration of Northern Rivers’ food and culture.
