Sandhills Wetlands: Byron Bay’s new nature haven
Byron Bay’s long-awaited Sandhills Wetlands restoration has officially opened, marking the end of one of the Shire’s largest and most complex environmental projects.
Nestled in the Byron Bay hinterland, Harvest Newrybar has become a must-visit destination over recent years. What began around 20 years ago as a small cafe with a veggie garden has evolved into an award-winning restaurant, placing this small, historic village firmly on the map.
Marcello Polifrone, head chef at Harvest Newrybar offers an experience that has both locals and visitors coming back for more. Known for his commitment to creative simplicity, you can look forward to an ever-changing menu, featuring seasonal and locally sourced produce that’s always delicious.
But Harvest is more than just a restaurant. It’s a multi-faceted business with arms that include an historic wood-fired bakery and a delightful deli, both of which serve up rustic, artisan made produce such as freshly baked sourdough, sweet and savoury pastries, seasonal salads, locally grown produce, cheeses and pantry goods.
The wide variety of fine foods on offer has made Harvest a cornerstone of many a local resident’s life! So, whether you’re looking to enjoy an intimate dinner, a laid-back breakfast, or just want to grab a perfectly brewed latté from the coffee cart, Harvest delivers on all fronts.
Thanks to Harvest’s success, Newrybar has attracted a wave of creative and boutique outlets that have transformed the village. There’s Newrybar Merchants, where you can pick up local art, handcrafted gifts, and luxury clothing: Luther & Co for beautiful jewellery and homewares: or browse through the vintage clothing at Two Roads Vintage, all while soaking up the laid-back atmosphere that Newrybar is known for.
Across the street, events and weddings are held at the much-loved Newrybar Hall adding to the sense of community, while the village’s proximity to Bangalow (just a seven-minute drive away) makes it an easy stop for those exploring the Byron hinterland.
What makes Newrybar truly special isn’t just the food or the shops; it’s the lifestyle that this part of the world offers. Newrybar offers a peaceful retreat from the busier Byron Bay, making it an ideal place to call home.
